LYNN SMYTHE TAKES ON THE DOPEY CHALLENGE!
I haven't solicited donations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in a very long time. But this is an epic event - I'll be doing the Dopey Challenge at Disney World with Team in Training. Read about my wild journey to run 48.6 miles in 4 days at Disney World - less than 2 months after my 50th birthday! Thank you for your support.
Have you heard of the Disney World Marathon? Started 21 years ago, the event is a multi-day celebration taking place every January in Orlando, Florida. The event attracts so many participants that back in 2006 the half marathon and marathon were scheduled for separate days to accommodate more runners.
That got some crazy people thinking they could do both events thus the Goofy Challenge was born. If you run the half marathon on Saturday and the marathon on Sunday, for a total of 39.3 miles, that’s called the Goofy Challenge and you receive 3 finishers medals for your efforts.
New this year is the Disney World 10K run which joins the existing 5K Family Fun Run, Disney Half Marathon and Disney Marathon. And you guessed it, some insane running person thought, what if you do all 4 races? So also new for this year is the inaugural Dopey Challenge. Anyone silly enough to sign up for Dopey will run a total of 48.6 miles over 4 days.
What do you get to celebrate such a momentous occasion? Dopey runners get a grand total of 6 finishers medals and 6 event t-shirts. Bling-a-bling-bling! Participants get a medal and shirt for finishing the 5k, 10k, half marathon and marathon along with medals and shirts in honor of their completing both the Goofy and Dopey challenges. That’s crazy!
Dopey Challenge Details

This year the inaugural Dopey Challenge sold out within a few days of registration opening - runners, all y’all are CRAZY!!!!!

Lynn has completed 8 events with Team in Training since 2006 and the Dopey Challenge will be her 9th event with the Palm Beach chapter TNT. Stanton Optical to Support TNT Athlete
Lynn currently works as the Content Manager for Stanton Optical in Palm Springs, Florida. Stanton Optical is supporting Lynn’s efforts in training and participating in the Dopey Challenge during Disney Marathon weekend. Stanton Optical made a generous corporate donation to Team in Training in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. What a way to get involved in the community!
Training for the event begins in August, 2013 and continues through event weekend in January, 2014. The Disney Marathon is one of the largest events the Palm Beach TNT chapter is involved in so training is broken out into 4 locations: Vero, Stuart, West Palm Beach and Boca Raton with social events planned for the entire team throughout the training season.
If you would like to make a donation to Team in Training, you can make a donation in my name, to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through this Team in Training donation page. The money helps fund research to find a cure and support programs for people diagnosed with leukemia and other blood cancers. Lynn will keep everyone updated on her training for this crazy event through various blog articles and social media postings. GO TEAM!
